Wood Tester
Wood Tester PILODYN 6J The PILODYN 6J wood tester is useful for measuring the density and strength of wood both in living trees and also in wood constructions such as utility poles and underwater pilings. Invisible Soft Rot can be detected rapidly and objectively by a simple, non-destructive method and the associated reduction in strength can be determined. In the case of wooden utility poles, this can be of vital importance for the linemen. The PILODYN 6J-Forest version wood tester determines the wood density of living trees. The effect of the test is so slight that the tree remains undamaged and the test method is considered to be non-destructive. Test procedure The test procedure is very simple - the device is loaded with the ramrod and then pressed firmly on to the test surface. The impact pin is shot into the wood by pressing the trigger cover (see artist's rendition below). The depth of penetration can be read immediately on the scale mounted on the tester. Typical applications of PILODYN 6J: * Strength testing of wooden utility poles, detection of Soft Rot * During thinning of forests - elimination of trees with undesired wood density * Early detection of diseases: periodic measurement detects unnatural changes in the wood density * Comparison of location-dependent density to determine the optimal location for the respective tree species * Establishing productivity with respect to density for the same tree species and similar location properties for culture purposes * Testing and sorting of cut wood in to timber classes
